A most beautiful sight can linger in our minds for a long time, the sheer splendor of a person or place refusing to leave our thoughts. Despite this, the march of time slowly erases the vividness of our first-hand experiences, the fog of many years dampening the images that we remember and hold dear. That’s why photography is important, for it is a way to capture memory and keep it fresh, a way for the vividness of experience to linger. Welcome to this week’s Travel Tuesday blog.

This week, we’ve got quite a selection of photos in store for you, gathered from the galleries of the great folk of Instagram. We’ve got misty mountains, lush shores, and more to show you on this peaceable Tuesday.

Ready? Let’s go!

Our first pick of the week belongs to @davidschere, showcasing a beautiful shot of Logy Bay. Here we see the shade of the cliff affecting the vantage point of the image, in how the darkened cliff makes the water flowing out the bay resemble water falling into it, as if there’s a slanted waterfall behind the rocks in the foreground. It’s simple optical illusions like this that make the photos of locales memorable in our eyes.

Our next pick belongs to @___sainaaa, presenting a breathtaking photo of Otgontenger, the highest part of the Khangai Mountains. Mountains are the parts of the earth closest to the sky, and we can feel the utter scope of such a statement in this image. Here the clouds are thick and roiling, covering any trace of blue in the air above this curved slope. We can only imagine the frigidity of such a place, along with that strange feeling of being above the world that we know.

The sunsets always hold a place dear to our hearts, and @bayano443’s photo of Tejeda beneath a colorful dusk sky tugs at our heartstrings. From the pathway in the foreground to the thin clouds that catch the sunlight in the background, there’s something so immersive about this particular image. Maybe the way it’s angled makes one feel like they’re walking through Tejeda themselves.

@dayhikingscotsman presents a solemn shot of a hiking trail in Denali, a place high above where the sound of streams echo through the chilly woods. The textures and hues of this photo are quite noticeable, as if this locale, far from the urban spaces that we’re used to, has a distinct quality to it, a primalness far from civilization. The way the hill looms above the burbling, rocky cliff and the silent pines just adds to this.

Our final pick of the week belongs to @junwoo.cho, presenting a truly vivid shot of a small creek waterfall in Yeongwol. The moss of the stones here is quite striking, a bright hue of green that speaks of the life and health of this particular slice of the world. The water cascading down the rocks looks almost ethereal, enhancing the beauty of this part of Yeongwol.
