There’s a sense of magic that one feels when looking up at a mountain. A mountain is the highest natural point in a given area of nature, an uplifting piece of the tectonic plates that touch the sky. Mountains are places of wonder, reverence and adventure for many people, maybe even for you. Welcome to this week’s Travel Tuesday blog!

This week, we’ve got an amazing collection of photos to show you, collected from the great galleries of the folk of Instagram. We’ve got sunny mountains, snowy mountains, calm streams and more in store for you to admire and be inspired by.

Ready? Let’s go!

Our first pick of the week belongs to @travelingonroads, presenting a serene shot of the watery crater of Mount Pinatubo. Responsible for cooling the world in 1991 after a devastating eruption (via volcanic cloud), Mount Pinatubo is now a placid locale with its own crater lake, Lake Pinatubo. Looks like a great place for a picnic.

Gaze upon the icy expanse of Nepal, along with the calm blue face of the Gokyo Lakes. @nature_called’s bird’s eye view of one of the highest points in the world is spectacular, giving you a sense of magnitude on how earthy peaks and high altitudes collide, creating an icy wonderland like this. There are 19 Gokyo lakes in total, and it must be quite an adventure if you plan on visiting all of them within a day or three of travel.

Let’s take a break from the mountains, and look with wonder at @philippeposso’s photo of a stream in Parco delle gole della Breggia. Here we see an enchanting stream of water as it winds between two perpendicular natural formations. The vertical cliff looks like tree bark, yet also looks like eroded stone, while the horizontal plane resembles rosy stones with flecks of green. The way the lines of this image seem to point towards the stream itself is intriguing, almost hypnotic.

@alexiane.miko presents a sunny shot of the Pyrenee mountain range, a distant, earthy shape that resembles the walls of a massive natural bastion. The vivid green hue of the foreground park and trees contrasts with the cooler, more distant details of the mountains, all dark splotches on pale rocky cliffs. The way that the foreground seems to curve from the slope gives a sense of dynamic movement in this particular frame, one that wouldn’t have been achieved if it were taken on a more horizontal vantage point.

Our final pick of the week belongs to @lensofeve, showcasing the bright yellow sun peeking through the slopes of mountains on the Mount Whitney Trail. The lonely yellow light of the sun, rising or falling into the horizon, complements the cool blue colors of the mountains. Like a painting, this image makes use of a limited color palette to evoke a sense of beauty and is aesthetically pleasing enough to immerse a viewer. We’d love to go on a mountain hike again one day, just to see sights like this.

That’s it for this week. Be sure to visit us next week for a fresh batch of great photos for you to admire and be inspired by.
