January is nearing its end, the first month of the new decade drawing to a close. We plan on celebrating 2020 with great culinary cruises, but every Tuesday, you can celebrate the joy of travel with us right here. Each week, our #TravelTuesday blog collects 5 great travel photos from the adventurous travelers of Instagram. This week, we’ve collected photos that really show the unique visual textures of the world’s great travel destinations, from scenic Russian architecture to the storybook hues of Indonesia.

First up is this gorgeous shot of Humantay Lake by @fiamaluccia. This lake in Cusco, Peru looks absolutely ethereal in this photo, the distant slopes and and hazy, reflective color giving off sacred, otherworldly feeling. The perspective is even in a Golden Rectangle, the best kind of photographic composition!

Next up is @trimbil.official’s travel photo of Merbabu Mountain, Indonesia. This stratovolcano is rendered in wonderful hues of blues, contrasting with the shining green of the grass below it. It reminds us of a beautiful painting from a childhood memory, when the world seemed far away, when every painting or photograph seemed like a clue to the great mystery of life outside of home.

As you may know, we just love artistic shot composition, a great way to show something from a unique perspective. You might have heard of Barcelona, but this photo by @arttravelgr gives it a new angle, as a place where you can reflect and find yourself. From the shaded, textured street to the distant golden spires, this travel photo really brings out the endless beauty to be found in places far from home.

The church of the Savior on Spilled Blood is one of the main tourist attractions in St. Petersburg it is also one of the most ornate churches you'll ever see. It was built in memory of Alexander II who was assassinated in 1881. The church stands on the very place where a bomb was thrown into his carriage. The church is breathtaking, even in restoration!! Its multi coloured exterior is exuberantly decorated with so much detail, the inside is even more breathtaking. I would love to have seen it without the scaffold. . . . . . #russia #stpetersburg #igersstpetersburg #russianchurch#saviorofspilledblood #church #breathtaking#architecture #history #inspire#instravel #culturetrip #aroundtheworld#citybreak#bestcitybreaks #europe_perfection #picoftheday#snapshot #citycaptures #throughthelens #postcardsoftheworld #travel_drops_ #travel#traveltheworld#exploremore#seetheworld #iamwizztraveller #canal #travelblog#ldnlutonairport

@travelplaces_ presents our next Travel Tuesday pick, a shot of St. Petersburg’s Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood. Erected on the site where Emperor Alexander II was assassinated by nihilists, this church is colorfully-decorated, inside and out. You can almost feel the Russian artistry in the windows and spires of the facade.

Our final Travel Tuesday photo pick of the week is by @cheri_home_assisi_appartamenti, showcasing a street corner in Assisi, Italy. Here you can see the empty, sloping street leading to several eclectic shops, while an angel-shaped ornament hangs above a wire festooned with unlit lights. This photo captures the serenity of one of Italy’s great towns, between the hustle and bustle of tourists and pedestrians, a moment of clarity frozen in time.
